RDA All-Star: Ghostgrace Killah

Posted on: November 6th 2020

We have loads of dedicated athletes training with Roller Derby Athletics all the time. But every now and again, someone comes along and knocks our skates off with their dedication and determination. And we can’t help sharing our #rdaallstars success with the world!

Introducing: Ghostgrace Killah, proud member of Burning River Roller Derby! Previously, she swam for 10 years, played field hockey for 7, lacrosse for 4, and rugby for about 3 years in college.

Coach Maloik nominated Ghostgrace Killah. Grace is a dedicated member of our Team Training with Burning River Roller Derby since March 2020 and has completed over 125 workouts with us. Her consistency with her workouts, especially in the team challenges, sets a great example for the rest of her team. Thank you and congratulations, Ghostgrace Killah!!

Q&A with Ghostgrace Killah

What do you get up to when you’re not playing derby? I watch a lot of movies and read weird stuff. I love trivia! And my cats.

What are you working towards in derby right now?  Since the pandemic hit, I’ve really gotten into off-skates workouts because that’s like the only thing I can do to try to keep up! So I guess I’m working on improving my strength and stability so whenever I get to skate again, I’ll be ready.

Any big successes or milestones for you in derby recently? Last season my team voted me MVP blocker. It meant a lot to me because I’m not like a showstopper player, but I try to be consistent and make sure I’m doing what I can do well.

How has off-skate training contributed to your derby experience? Doing off-skates training has definitely improved my ability to do lots of things on-skates, but it’s also really good to be able to do something productive if you can’t skate or are stuck in a rut and can’t seem to learn new skills. It’s obviously good for general athleticism, but also mental health!

What is your favourite thing about training with RDA? I don’t have to figure out what to do on my own, and I know the program is well-rounded and effective for me – especially since my coach is my friend/teammate!

Do you have a favorite RDA workout? The agility challenge was surprisingly fun, especially the ladders and even the stairs!
